Drinkies and Demos

Together with the lovely people at ACP Magazines, Daily Pilates organized a champagne and cocktails party as part of 30 Days of Fashion and Beauty. The evening was designed to inspire guests to seek out the benefits of good health and well-being and to provide an insight in to some of the great services we offer here at Daily.

Jessica Irvine, the managing editor of Madison Magazine introduced the event, and gave a brief talk on working out with the Powerplate and the ability to see results in quite a short space of time. She also spoke briefly on the soon to be released Daily Bath and Body and the Daily Tea ranges. This was followed by a demonstration by Kasia and Ann on the Powerplate.
The Power Plate machine is latest in exercise technology, a vibration device that uses the acceleration training principle to achieve a wide range of health and fitness benefits. The platform stimulates the body’s response to vibration by activating muscle contractions or encouraging relaxation. The overall training on the Power Plate offers a wide range of benefits including improved strength, flexibility, circulation and wellness - all in a time frame that was once not possible.

This machine used by a wide variety of fashion industry insiders including Power Plates’ Australian ambassador Erica Heynatz – television presenter and international model. When the modeling world and fashion industry put themselves in the hands of Power Plate to keep them in top physical and mental condition, you know can expect results!
Throughout the evening, the Daily Team demonstrated aspects of the Pilates Method on the different equipment we use in both private sessions and studio classes. Guests were able to watch Danielle in the entryway on the ladder barrel, Ann on the wunda chair at reception and outside on the deck, Jennifer and Rachael were on the caddilac and the wunda chair. This allowed everyone to gain an understanding of the different exercises able to be performed, and the Daily team was available for explanations and questions while mingling with guests and enjoying the balmy evening.

At the end of the evening, a number of door prizes were drawn, including a gift pack from Abi and Joseph and 2 Deluxe Experience Gift Vouchers to the value of $2750 each. The winners have already been in to the Daily Studios in South Melbourne and Fitzroy to enjoy their prizes and get started on their Daily experience. All guests received a goodie bag filled with lots of fabulous products, including samples of the new Daily Bath and Body and Tea ranges and gifts from our sponsors, L’oreal Kérastase, ACP Magazines, Celebrity Slim, NeoSKin and Babies Only skincare, Vitality Anti-oxidant chocolates and Gelati Sky. We hope everyone that attended enjoyed the evening, and we look forward to seeing you all in the studios soon.

Following a wonderful and successful year at Daily, Kirstin Ferrie, our senior instructor has returned to her homeland in the UK as she is expecting her first child in September!

We are both excited and happy for Kirstin as she awaits the arrival her new baby, however sad as she is no longer a permanent fixture in our studios with her bubbly personality and wealth of teaching experience….for the time being at least!

Top tips for practising Pilates at home - using a Theraband!!

Having trouble keeping up with your workload, let alone exercise and healthy eating? Here are some basic yet effective exercises to do at home, in your living room or bedroom for the times  you cant make it into the studio.

As we all know by the change in weather and the near closure of daylight savings, its time to start locking in some routines to make sure we don’t become sluggish and lazy during the colder months. These four easy exercises can help maintain your flexibility and lengthen your muscles, while making you feel firm and confident when you haven’t had time to make it to your normal pilates sessions! All you need is a theraband and you are ready to get started!!!

The Hundreds
Lying on back, knees in tabletop. Theraband laid flat over shine, holding the theraband in the hands so that there is a small amount of tension in the band.
Exhale: Curl forwards, lifting the head and shoulders off the ground, pressing the hands down slightly to increase tension in the band.
Inhale: Inhale for 5 counts, beating the arms gently with each count.
Exhale: Exhale for 5 counts, beating the arms gently with each count.
Repeat x10
Inhale: Hold
Exhale: Lower the head and shoulders back to the ground.

Leg Circles
Lying on back with one leg extended along the ground. The other leg is extended up to the ceiling with the theraband over the arch of the foot. Hands holding the ends of the theraband on the ground, slightly away from the body.
Inhale: Cross the leg in the air across the midline of the body and lower towards the the ground, maintaining a stable pelvis.
Exhale: Sweep he leg around, out to the side and up to the starting position to complete circle. Again, maintaining a stable pelvis.
Repeat x5 each direction, on each leg.

Clams
Lying on the side with knees bent forwards and the toes tucked up under the bottom. Knees tied together with a theraband.
Inhale: Prepare
Exhale: Keeping the hips stacked one on top of the other and the toes touching. Lift the top knee away from the bottom knee.
Inhale: Control the return of the top knee back to the bottom knee.
Repeat x10 each side

Hip Extensions
On the hands and knees with the hands beneath the shoulders and the knees beneath the hips. Theraband tied in a loose loop around the top of the knees.
Inhale: Prepare
Exhale: Maintaining a level pelvis, press one leg back, allowing the knee to lift off the ground and extend the leg away from the body.
Inhale: Return knee to the ground.
Repeat x8 each side, alternating sides.

We hope this easy to follow exercises will help you remain toned and terrific during the colder and busy months!

Aspiring to become a pilates consultant…..one day!

My name is Ash and I work at Daily at reception and in an administration capacity for both South Melbourne and Fitzroy.

I have been with Daily for some time and chose to approach them for work as a stepping stone to become a qualified pilates instructor one day. I am currently in my 3rd year studying osteopathy and would like to combine the two so I can help clients in both capacities. There are a number of staff at Daily who have studied in like minded fields and have varied backgrounds, not only as Pilates teachers. Many of them are dancers who have overcome injury or trained in pilates for flexibility and muscle strengthening and so on. Many of them have become instructors via this path. On the other hand, I am doing it through a university based background and combining my passion for pilates. I would eventually like to use the two practices and teach them concurrently.I think its really important to have some education based training in the health side also to ensure I have the knowledge and information to offer each client the correct and expert advise according to their needs.

Dr Geraldine Van Boxmeer is one of the senior pilates teachers at Daily who has an exceptional level of experience in both pilates and osteo. My aim is to gain a similar background from working here and training with Daily to become a qualified pilates consultant one day also.

35 Weeks Pregnant

The week has gone quickly and the 6.30am alarm rolesaround before I am ready for it. Another chilly morning but the warmth of the studio and the opportunity to stretch out my muscles is beckoning. It has been an active week and I am feeling slightly stiff in my shoulders and calves. It is a comforting reminder of the week’s activities.
